Anton Kreil’s Experience: What Can Be Said About It?

Anton has a remarkable career as a Financial Markets Professional Trader. He created his first trading account when he was sixteen and profitably traded during the late 1990s tech boom. Out of 400 students in his Economics undergraduate degree at the University of Manchester, he was the first to obtain a formal employment offer from an Investment Bank trading department. Goldman Sachs recognized his track record and hired him on an “unconditional offer,” which means that he could obtain any grade in his degree and still be hired as a Professional Trader.

He graduated from the notorious Goldman Sachs Analyst Program (2000) and Associate Program (2002) in New York, which has trained a disproportionately high number of the world’s greatest Investment Bank and Hedge Fund Traders over the previous thirty years.

During his Professional Trading career, Anton worked as both a Proprietary Trader and a Market Maker, operating two distinct books on Pan European Trading Desks out of London. While at Goldman Sachs, his proprietary trading book increased from $25 million in 2000 to nearly $400 million by 2004. While at Goldman Sachs, he traded in a variety of sectors, including technology, media, telecommunications, banks, insurance, transportation (including airlines), industrials, pharmaceuticals, biotech, and chemicals. All of the sectors he traded on the Pan European Trading Desk had market share rankings of one or two, indicating that he was always one of the world’s largest dealers.

This success was due mostly to the scale of the proprietary trading accounts he ran during his tenure there, as well as his ability to profit from large events such as massive macroeconomic surprises and earnings surprises. As one of Goldman Sachs’ “big situation traders,” he became well-known in the market. Anton was then headhunted by Lehman Brothers in 2004 and JP Morgan in 2006. Anton led the worldwide Pharmaceuticals, Biotech, and Chemicals franchises at both of these companies, where he achieved the number one market share and profitability. Anton left the Investment Banking profession in May 2007, right before the market’s peak and approaching collapse due to the Global Financial Crisis.

Anton was chosen by the BBC in June 2008 to feature in the British TV program Million Dollar Traders, which aired in 2009. The show went international, catapulting Anton from relative obscurity into the spotlight. In 2011, Anton decided to go on the road and establish the Institute of Trading and Portfolio Management in response to the hundreds of letters he got from people all around the world wanting him to teach trading.
